The Woodlands Real Estate Information
The Woodlands is a master-planned community located north of Houston in Montgomery County and is considered to be part of the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area. Hosting over 85,000 residents, the majority of the development sits inside of the city of Houston’s extraterritorial jurisdiction. Twenty-eight miles north of the downtown district of the city, The Woodlands can be conveniently reached via a simple drive on the I-45 northbound interstate.
Although it was originally designed to be a suburban bedroom community, The Woodlands has quickly become a popular home base for several corporations in the area, including Chevron Phillips, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, Baker Hughes, Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, Mærsk Sealand, Chicago Bridge & Iron, Woodforest National Bank, CB&I, and Hewitt Associates. Area real estate is ideally situated next to several amenities and important locations and services. Area properties are close to two movie theaters, over 150 restaurants, an amphitheater, and a number of retailers and stores. The Woodlands Waterway is a public waterway that features lit sidewalks, a water taxi, colored lights, and a dancing waterfall with music.
The Woodlands Mall is the area’s primary shopping center and covers 1,350,000 square feet of retail space. Anchored by retail giants JCPenney, Dillard’s, Macy’s, and Sears, the facility also includes a food court, several restaurants, the Woodlands Children’s Museum, the Woodlands Xploration Station, and even a satellite Houston Museum of Natural Science. A number of upscale shops are also included at the mall. The Woodlands is also quite close to the famous Augusta Pines area which features world-class golfing and a number of fun recreational areas.
The schooling for The Woodlands’ residents is split between the Conroe Independent School District and the Tomball Independent School District depending on home location in the community. The Woodlands High School is the largest of its kind in the state and extends over two campuses. While it serves the western half of the area, The Woodlands College Park High school serves the eastern side. There are three middle schools to serve the local youth. Montgomery County has two schools: Knox Junior High School and McCullough Junior High School while Harris County has just one: Tomball Junior High School.
