Situated in Fort Bend, Harris County, Katy and its 12,000 residents enjoy conventional Texan lifestyles on the western fringe of the city of Houston. Ideally located along the I-10 interstate, residents can easily drive into the city within a matter of minutes. This proximity does not mean, however, a lot of loud noise and busy local streets. Katy’s residents enjoy the safe neighborhoods and flowing streets and roads.

Named for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad’s nickname of “K-T Railroad,” Katy has become a significant hub of commerce and commercial interests. Igloo Corporation, maker of a bunch of home products, is headquartered in Katy as is Academy Sports and Outdoors. KBR, a global engineering and construction firm has an eighty-acre campus that serves over 4,500 employees and includes over 900,000 square feet of office floorage.

A number of places to shop and run errands can be found within the immediate Katy area. Katy Mill Shopping Center is the primary retail center and is an outlet mall that has over two hundred specialty stores including Bass Pro Shops, Outdoor World, American Eagle Outfitters, Bath and Body Works, and Neiman Marcus. In all, there is over 1.3 million square feet of retail space. Area properties are also close to a number of local airports. While average travelers who fly commercially must travel to one of Houston’s two major airfields, there are several private and general aviation airports in or near Katy, including Sack-O-Grande Acroport, Houston Executive Airport, West Houston Airport, Hoffpauir Airport, and Cardiff Brothers Airport.

One of the benefits of area real estate is the close proximity of several services. Lifemark Medical Center, Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, and Christus St. Catherine Hospital are all located locally and offer a complete range of medical services to Katy’s residents. A slew of recreational opportunities are also scatted throughout the area. Woodland Park, Katy City Park, Harris County Katy Park, Mary Jo Peckham Park, and a number of small corner parks offer ideal locations to work out, play with the children, take part in planned athletics, or simply go for an evening walk. Green Meadows Country Club and The Club at Falcon Point are popular membership recreational locations.
