Cypress Real Estate Information

Often referred to by its nicknames of Cypress-Fairbanks or Cy-Fair, Cypress is located completely outside of Houston but still serves as a suburban-esque neighborhood that is home to several residents who work in downtown Houston’s central business district. Ideally situated in the northwest area along U.S. Highway 290, Cypress is only a twenty mile drive from the major city center and can typically be reached within a thirty-to-forty minute drive during major commuting times. Massive commercial and residential development boomed in Cypress beginning in the 1980s, effectively transforming Cypress from a rural cultivation area into one of Houston’s largest and most popular bedroom communities.

Area properties feature some of the most unique topography of the Houston area. Interestingly, Cypress features two distinct geographic profiles, separated by the highway that bisects the area. North of the highway is forested and thickly wooded while the southern region is predominately ranchland and grassy prairie with scrub brush sprinkled about.

One of the major selling points of area real estate is the availability of nearby medial facilities that provide convenient and exceptional medical attention, especially in times of emergency. Both the Cypress-Fairbanks Hospital and the North Cypress Medical Center are designed to provide the latest in medical technologies. Cypress also has its own volunteer fire department that is another community bonus as it provides a much safer living community and gives residents added peace of mind.

There are a number of attractions spread throughout Cypress that add to the cultural heritage of the area. Tin Hall, one of the oldest operating dance halls in the state, has been used continuously since 1889. The $80 million Berry Center, featuring a football stadium, basketball arena, auditorium, multimedia production facility, catering area, and conference center, is a major attraction for residents and visitors of all ages. The 80-acre Northwest Forest Conference Center serves as a large resort as well as a host for several large meetings and conventions. Golfing is one of residents’ favorite past-times and can easily be found at Longwood Golf Club, Blackhorse, Houston National Golf Club, Cypress Lakes, Cypress Golf Club, and Hearthstone Country Club.
